Planning proposals were a priority and had to be considered carefully, since this property falls within the Kew Conservation area. The client’s brief was to convert and expand the open plan living space on the ground floor levels and to add dormers to the second floor. Although a generously sized property, the heart of the ground floor was broken into many complex shaped rooms and not conducive modern family living.
Hamilton King gained planning approval on a ground floor and second floor extension which matched the client’s brief. The result was an internal reconfiguration to the ground floor keeping features from the original house; namely a rear ground floor bay window which classically contrasted the addition of a contemporary rear extension. This combination of styles was deemed appropriate by the Local Planning Authority who granted approval for the full scheme. Further Planning Consent was granted for additional development to the previously converted loft, with consent to add two roof dormers which will allow for much-requested increase in useable footprint to the second-floor bedrooms.
